Howie Christensen On His Own…Again

As usual, Crystal Lake City Councilman is running alone.

Every time he has run, he has been the “odd man out.”

You see Cathy Ferguson and Ellen Brady Mueller signs on the same lawns.

“That’s a figure of speech, isn’t it, Dad?” as my son would put it.

You see Aaron Shepley and Michael Zellman signs on the same lawn.

You see Aaron Shepley signs with those of Brent Hopkins and, on other lawns, with Jim Batastini or Ferguson and/or Brady Mueller.

But the only signs I’ve regularly seen with Howie Christensen’s are John Burton’s and Eric Anderson’s.

I’m sure there are some other combinations out there, but I can’t remember seeing Christensen’s with those of other incumbents…except for the set on West Crystal Lake Avenue, just west of Walkup Avenue.

The people that allowed them to be erected are definitely supporters of the “incumbent party,” as former Dan Walker operative and rest stop inspector Gary Fears said after he got a sweetheart loan from Governor Jim Thompson and State Treasurer Jerry Cosentino.

I figure the property is owned by people who regularly deal with city council. If an incumbent loses, they can tell the winner, “I’ll be with you when you run for re-election.

And, what do you think about Republican precinct committeeman Tom McDermott’s opposing Christensen. His yard has signs for Shepley, Mueller and Ferguson.

Christensen has often marched to a different drummer.

“Is that another figure of speech, Dad?”

Since he has survived from the five-person council, there must be a number of people who support him.

But, among those supporters do not seem to be the other incumbents who are running for re-election?

Nor, I now notice is the Northwest Herald endorsing Christensen.

In fact, it recommends newcomers for two of the three council spots.

The other incumbent not recommended is Brady Mueller.

The newcomers endorsed?

Jim Batastini and Brent Hopkins.

Hopkins was smart enough to post “Endorsed by the NW Herald” on his signs, both large and small…at least the ones I saw.

Of course, that could be a mixed blessing.
