McHenry Grade School Favorites Play the "My Kids Are in School” Card

Poor John O’Neill.

First he gets elected Republican precinct committeeman in the most dismal of Republican years since the Watergate year of 1974.

Then he decides to run for the thankless job of school board.

Then the current school board takes most of the power away from future school board for five, count them—2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012—year by signing virtually unheard of five year contracts for teachers, administrators, non-certified staff, you name it.

With salaries being about 80% of a school district’s budget, what’s a school board member to do during the next five years?

Now, two of the “chosen ones” have sent out flyers–these delivered by abou 10-year olds–saying,

  • Proud Parent of 4 District 15 Students and
  • Proud Product of District 15 & 156 Schools

They fail to mention that by attending public schools, they cost local and state taxpayers money.

If I were O’Neill and being attacked for homeschooling his children, I’d point out that I am saving taxpayers, what, $5,000 to $6,000 per year by not sending them to public school.

Now that’s putting fiscal conservatism where one’s mouth is.

But, O’Neill, whom I met sitting around McHenry Marlins Swim Team pools, isn’t that kind of guy.

It is interesting to note that the flyer was printed on yellow paper with black print, the same color scheme which another D15 candidate, John O’Neill, has blanketed the McHenry area with yard signs, bumpers stickers, and people wearing his campaign sweatshirts.

Wonder if Pat Miller and Geoff Sponholtz are trying to draw on some of the advertising buzz Candidate O’Neill has created. Or are they trying to confuse the voters into thinking that Pat and Geoff are aligned with John O’Neill.

If they are, I’d suggest they hire O’Neill’s graphics person.

Theirs needs improvement.
