Jim Carlin – Sun City, Bye-Bye

I don’t know why, but Huntley School District 158 board member-elect Jim Catlin’s announced move from Sun City to a western Algonquin golf club subdivision (Terrace Hill) reminds me of the way Teletubbies end the show.

It’s been a long time since I watched it and, then, it was only rarely because my son did not like the show.

An announcer says,

Teletubby Bye-Bye

And a couple of times the four Telebubbies wave good-bye.

During his campaign for the Huntley School Board Catlin made a big deal about being from Sun City.

Larry Snow made a big deal about Carlin’s having not supported the opponents to the 55-cent school tax hike, which Sun City residents do not like one little bit.

Catlin did not do well in Sun City.

He did better than any of the other supporters of the current ruling clique, but he was not the top vote getter.

The results available right after the election in Kane County, for instance, were as follows:

Aileen Seedorf – 811
Linda Moore – 719
Jim Carlin – 539

So, did Carlin feel rejected when outsiders beat him in his own development?

On page 4 of the Sun City Herald, part of the Northwest Herald, Carlin “confessed” to Kurt Begalka that

he was disappointed to the tepid support he received within Sun City, but that it had nothing to do with his decision to move. His wife simply wanted to be closer to Crystal Lake, where she commutes to visit their grandchildren. Carlin especially will miss participating in Community Civics and Symposium club events—as well as his many friends. But he promised to represent all of his constituents.

“I don’t know what I would do that would be that different if I didn’t leave,” Carlin said.

Carlin touted himself as a successful business executive. I wonder if he will vote to force administrators who received cash fringe benefits without approval from prior school boards to repay the up to $200,000 received.
