BP Awards Three Area Teachers $5,000 to S10,000 Scholarships

Three area teachers are among 93 Chicagoland educators being awarded $1 million in $5,000 to $10,000 grants for “creative classroom, after-school, extra-curricular or summer activities involving energy education and conservation by oil company BP.

Two Johnsburg Junior High School teachers won the honor:

Andrew Reinhard and Michelle Lawniczak.

In addition, Elizabeth Woods of District 300’s Dundee-Crown High School was selected.

Called “A+ for Energy,” the program is designed to create exciting and memorable education experiences around the subject of energy for students. All accredited K-12 teachers in public and private schools are eligible to apply.

Illinois is the third state the company that used to be known as British Petroleum has rolled out this program. The other two are California and Texas.

In addition to the grants, the teachers will receive scholarships valued at $500 for a three-day energy training conference.
