Rolling Down the Window

I read some really great advice in Elgin’s Courier-News Saturday.

In an article entitled,

“How to flee if car goes into water,”

this advice was given:

“The first thing you want to do is roll down your window. Then unbuckle your window,” according to Joliet Fire Department dive team leader Ron Fox.

“Most late model cars have electric windows and doors, so it’s critical to get the window open before water hits the battery,” Cindy Wojdla Cain’s article continues.

“Once water hits the battery, the electrical system in the car fails,” Fox added.

You’ll have to admit that rolling down the window is not an intuitive thing to do.

Other advice in the article?

”If you’re trapped in the car and can’t get the windows or doors open, take an object such as a flashlight and hit the edge or corner of a side window with it. The window should shatter.

“’Don’t try to kick out the windshield — you’ll never be able to do it,’ he said.”
