Third Republican Candidate Vying to Face Melissa Bean

The Daily Herald is reporting that a third Republican man wants the right to run against 16th congressional district Congresswoman Melissa Bean.

The newcomer’s headline?

Father
of fallen Marine
to run for Congress

His name is Kirk Morris. He is 49 and a sales exec for a bio-fuels firm.

The Gurnee resident will be running against Ken Arnold, also of Gurnee, and Steve Greenberg of Long Grove.

Morris, whose 19-year old Marine machine gunner son PFC Geoffrey Morris was killed in 2004 in Iraq, has dedicated himself to the Heroes of Freedom Memorial.

Chicago Bears, past and present, have assisted in fund raising efforts to “raise $2.5 million to build a Fisher House on the grounds of the Hines VA Hospital,” according to a Lake County Journal article. The Fisher House web site says its goal is to

”enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful time — during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury.”

The organization is also raising money for “a 1.6-acre site located where the former Village of Gurnee police station stood at 4580 Old Grand Avenue as the site for a future Heroes of Freedom Memorial,” according to a press release I found.

I can find no web site and Morris did not return my phone call requesting his press release.
