Manzullo Announces Re-Election

It’s not a big surprise, but 16th congressional district United State Representative Don Manzullo has announced he is running for re-election. Manzullo was first elected in 1992 after running unsuccessfully in the 1990 Republican primary election.

Manzullo Seeks to Continue Serving
McHenry County
in U.S. Congress

[ROCKFORD] Congressman Don Manzullo (R-IL) today announced he will seek re-election in 2008 to continue serving the great people of McHenry County in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Manzullo will file petitions this month to put his name on the February 2008 Primary ballot for Illinois’ 16th Congressional District, which includes the counties of Boone, Winnebago, Stephenson, Jo Daviess, Carroll, Ogle, most of McHenry County, half of DeKalb County, and about one third of Whiteside County.

Knowing traffic congestion is McHenry County’s number one problem, Manzullo will continue to build on his success of securing federal funds for necessary road projects to ease the gridlock. Working with our U.S. Senators, Manzullo has secured more than $32 million for major McHenry County road projects, including the Western Bypass of Algonquin, Route 47 widening through Huntley, and Rakow Road widening in Crystal Lake and Lake in the Hills. In addition, he has joined forces with area mayors, county officials, and the McHenry County Better Roads Coalition to get some of the $6.2 billion in federal road money given to the State of Illinois two years ago.

“I know transportation funding is McHenry County’s number one need, and I will continue to seek opportunities to help relieve the bumper-to-bumper traffic that pollutes our environment and keeps moms and dads away from home,” Manzullo said. “At the same time, I will continue to fight wasteful Washington spending and reckless tax increases that threaten the pocketbooks of the people I represent.”

Manzullo serves as the senior Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific and the Global Environment, and he’s a member of the House Financial Services Committee. He continues to co-chair the bipartisan House Manufacturing Caucus and he was named Chairman of the Republican Policy Committee’s Task Force on Manufacturing. Earlier this year, he created the Export Controls Working Group and he was recently named as a commissioner to the prestigious Congressional-Executive Commission on China, which battles human rights abuses and religious persecution in China.

Through these committee assignments and leadership positions, Manzullo is able to continue his mission to make U.S. manufacturers more competitive at home while leveling the playing field for American workers competing with overseas companies that often do not play by the rules. Most recently, Manzullo has been leading the charge in Congress to protect the U.S. patent system that spurs American innovation and jobs. He is also leading efforts to reform our export control policies to strengthen national security and create jobs for Americans.
“It is an honor and privilege to represent the people of McHenry County in the United States Congress,” Manzullo said. “But we still have more work to do, and I’m again asking for your support to allow me to continue to fight for your priorities in Washington.”
