Huntley School Board Member Jim Carlin Announces Intention to Resign

At the end of the Huntley School District’s meeting Thursday night, newly elected board member Jim Carlin said he would submit his written resignation to Board President Shawn Green on Friday.

Carlin said that he did not have the disposition to be on a board of education.

I’ve written a couple of articles which show his mode of operation:

The signaled resignation occurred on a night when his recommendation for hiring a consultant for $2,000 a day was not approved.

Also rejected was his proposal to consider a resolution to censure fellow board member Larry Snow. Carlin asked for his proposal to be put on the meeting’s agenda, but the request was denied.

This Daily Herald article by Jameel Naqvi explains Carlin’s intentions. Carlin seemed upset about Snow’s having written the following below a Northwest Herald web site article:

“A few free lunches, a few free dinners, a thank-you envelope in the Christmas basket sent to the home and a few well-placed political contributions and you have the recipe for overcrowding.”

The Daily Herald article said,

“Snow’s comments did not specifically name the Huntley village board or Huntley Mayor Chuck Sass, who formally repudiated Snow’s remarks at a later meeting.”

Christmas came the first month after I was sworn in as McHenry County Treasurer in 1966. Was that 24-year old surprised when bottles of liquor, boxes of candy, fruit cakes, a basket of cheese and other gifts started being placed on the front counter. We still use the basket in which the cheese was delivered.

But there were no envelopes and nothing was delivered to my home.

McHenry County Blog ran this story on Carlin’s email about his proposal to condemn Snow.

Board member Tony Quagliano publicly asked Carlin to reconsider his decision.
