Implications of Jack Franks Leadership Role in Abboud Congressional Campaign

Franks’ co-chairmanship of Democrat Robert Abboud’s campaign against Republican Congressman Don Manzullo may well mean that the energetic door-to-door campaigner will be doing in the 16th district what he did for Melissa Bean in the 8th when David McSweeney challenged her last year.

Franks knocked on doors throughout Bean’s area promoting the congresswoman, plus Democratic Party McHenry County Board member Mary Margaret Maule.

It will be interesting to see if Franks selects a 16th congressional district county board candidate to campaign for in 2008.

He could do so in either the western county board district 6, which overlaps his district, except for the largely Sun City Huntley part.

The 5th county board district overlaps his state representative district in the Woodstock area, but not in Lake in the Hills and Huntley east of Route 47.

It’s even possible that Franks will campaign for Abboud and a county board member in Mike Tryon’s district in Grafton, Nunda and Algonquin Townships. He would probably have less influence there, but his name would certainly be familiar enough to get a door opened.

Because no effort is being made by the McHenry County Republican Party to find an opponent for Franks, he can pretty much do anything he wants to.

He could even go on vacation for the campaign.
