Ron Paul Gets More Respect from Chicago Tribune

When the Chicago Tribune ranWhen the Tribune ran a front page Tempo section story on Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul a month ago, although the story was a thoughtful one, I complained about the selected photograph.

He was all alone in a big room.

How outrageous. Candidate Ron Paul had drawn more people to an Illinois event than any other GOP candidate. (He had a ballroom filled campaign rally, while the other candidates just come to Chicago to raise money and hold press conferences.)

So, I was surprised Tuesday when a front page article appeared comparing Paul’s campaign to that of Howard Dean’s 2004 campaign.

And there was a photograph of Paul in a crowded room.

Quite a difference from the Tempo section selection.

The campaign is recruiting people to go to New Hampshire. 405 have signed up so far. They will live in about 20 houses across the state.

The campaign will utilized “new technologies, little hierarchy, microdonations and a democratic delegation of work. You could call it wikipaigning.”

The article quotes Jesse Benton, a spokesman for Paul, as saying there will be advertising through the February 5th primaries, so expect to see TV commercials in Illinois.

There’s also a Ron Paul blimp saying, “Google Ron Paul.” It’s on the East Coast.

“Such original thinking came from hundreds of people, from attorneys to graphic designers to blimp pilots,” the article by J.A. George ends.

There is, of course, the prediction that Paul’s campaign will collapse the same way that Dean’s did.

The two newspaper photos are from the Chicago Tribune.

The one of the rally was taken last September.
