8th Congressional District GOP Candidate Ken Arnold Takes on Legislative Operations, Foreigh Trade and Federal Spending

8th congressional district Republican primary candidate Ken Arnold has taken on three more issues. This time they are Legislative Operations, Foreign Trade and Federal Spending.

Arnold is contending with Steve Greenberg and Kirk Morris for the GOP nomination to face off against incumbent Democrat Melissa Bean.

Here is his press release:

Candidate Arnold Addresses Problems of
Legislative Operations, Foreign Trade and Federal Spending

Gurnee, IL: Eighth District Republican congressional candidate, Kenneth W. Arnold, released three “white paper solutions” on his www.ArnoldforCongress.com website today. These detailed and original-thinking solutions cover a range of Federal problems and join twenty others found already on this site.

Candidate Arnold has developed what he calls The 21st Century Congress Act. This initiative allows both U.S. Representatives and Senators a quota of 10% of all votes being able to be cast remotely on secure computers with user identifications, passwords, and confirmation statements to ensure accuracy. The detailed paper points out that not only does his solution prevent citizens and Representatives from losing their vote whenever a legislator is physically unable to come to the floor of the House or Senate, but it sets up the processes and capability for a continuation of government in case of national emergency.

Ken Arnold states:

“Washington is stuck in the horse and buggy era when it comes to casting votes. This initiative well balances the need for physical interaction among legislators with the desire to avoid Districts (and their citizens) from losing their voice within the Congress whenever their Representative cannot be present on the floor due to a death in the family, personal illness, or other event preventing them from physically being in the Capitol building.”

Candidate Arnold’s second released white paper is his FAIR Trade Act dealing with foreign trade. Ken Arnold outlined that he insists on FAIR trade among nations – and condemns incumbent Melissa Bean for voting for the CAFTA trade treaty and “…unfairly giving away the store regarding our manufacturing base in this country…”

His initiative calls for foreign trading partners to agree to honor patents and intellectual property along with merely having 70% of the levels of labor laws and pollution laws that the United States has to then be declared a “Fair Trade Partner”. Barring such agreement, Nations could still trade with the U.S.

However: Such countries would pay a “trade equalization tax” exactly equal to the percentage negative trade balance that country caused in their trade with the United States. Thus: If a country caused a 30% trade deficit with the U.S. in the prior year, the “Trade Equalization Tax” would be – you guessed it – 30% in the following year.

Candidate Ken Arnold has now developed and released twenty-three “white paper solutions” across a wide range of National and regional problems. The sum of these solutions he claims would easily save hundreds of billions of dollars annually in the Federal budget. So Mr. Arnold has now even come out with how to handle the “problem” of deploying all of his Federal surpluses! He calls his twenty-third initiative The 3-2-1 Federal Savings Deployment Program.

This 3-2-1 Plan outlines that for every $6 of Federal budget savings which he and all other Congressmen come up with, there would be a pre-approved methodology to distribute such savings. He suggests that $3 be returned to the Federal taxpayers in decreased tax burdens, $2 be applied to needed national infrastructure construction and maintenance projects such as bridges and roadways, and $1 be applied to pay down the national debt.

He states:

“Politically, this ensures the buy in of both Democrats and Republicans in a true American compromise decided upon before the surpluses start coming in. From a public policy standpoint, moreover; it relieves tax burdens, helps restore our infrastructure literally falling down before us, and greatly reduces the debt burdens of future generations of Americans. Truly…this is a ‘win/win’ for all!”
