Richard Kelly Meets Pam Palmer for the First Time

This is the third installment of McHenry County Auditor challenger Richard Kelly’s description of his and McHenry County Auditor Pam Palmer’s interview at the Northwest Herald in mid-December.

LET THEM EAT CAKE

As I travel the county putting up signs and meeting the citizens of this great place, I hear so many people wonder out loud whether I am running unopposed.

Other people ask me, “Who is the auditor of McHenry County?”

Evidently, few people, outside of the government center, know who the auditor is.

Actually, I have been at almost every county board meeting for the past ten years, since I am chairman of the McHenry County Zoning Board of Appeals, and I had no idea up until recently what the auditor looked like.

The first time I actually can remember was at the December 17, 2002, Northwest Herald interview.

During the Herald interview, I significantly raised the fact that our county auditor did not even bother to appear at the 2007 annual budget meeting for the county board.

I was present during the annual budget meeting for the county board – the auditor was absent.

During the county board meeting, several questions were raised by county board members regarding the budget; but alas, the auditor was not present to answer those questions. The county administrator, who is not an elected official, answered those questions posed by county board members, in the auditor’s stead.

My opponent did not offer any explanation during the Herald interview as to why she absent from such an important county board meeting.

I did, however, see my opponent at the next meeting, eating a piece of cake at the county board Christmas party.
