Activism for McCain Shared

John Morrison, former Reuters reporter and a friend of McHenry County Blog, has shared his enthusiasm for presidential candidate John McCain. He even found a way to sign up to be volunteer. Here is his missive:

As a former Daley Democrat, I have found many reasons to vote for John McCain for President in the primary on February 5.

McCain is no peacenik candidate and he will pursue Bush’s Iraq war until there will be no power vacuum when the last U.S. soldier leaves.

But I am especially impressed by how he will pursue the war because he is the sole Republican candidate to fiercely oppose torture. He is the only one who has witnessed torture first hand in the Hanoi Hilton prison camp and knows it not only breaks international law, it is also ineffective in obtaining the truth.

I was also impressed by how he continued to propose stricter fuel standard in Michigan, even though Big Auto would prefer him to waffle and talk nonsense about voluntary standards.

His reasoning on why we have to start fighting global warming now, not saying like the other candidates that we should wait for more proof it is caused by humans, is very elegant in its simplicity.

Reducing CO2 emissions has no downside because if we do and find it was not needed to reduce global warming, we will have a cleaner environment. But if we continue to delay, we could pass the dreaded tipping point and there may be nothing our children can do to solve the main environmental problem we face.

So even if you are a former Chicago Democrat like me or a life-long Republican, vote for John McCain, whose firmness of conviction on the key issues facing this country makes the powers-that-be the most uncomfortable.
