Will County Board Member Says of Jack Franks Bill RTA Sales Tax Opt-Out Bill: “They’re aren’t many people who want it.”

Having failed to stop the half of one percent RTA sales tax hike scheduled to take effect today, State Rep. Jack Franks (D-Marengo) introduced House Bill 4717 to require collar county boards to put their careers on the line by voting for it before it took effect.

The Will County board’s legislative committee has been following the bill’s progress.

Joliet Herald News reporter Stewart Warren says, “…it isn’t amounting to much,” in the first sentence of his last month’s article.

“There aren’t many people who want it,” Will County Board Member Lee Ann Goodson (R-Plainfield) is indirectly quoted.

The article concludes:

“‘There is some discussion of amending this bill so it only affects McHenry County,’ Goodson said, explaining that residents in that (McHenry County) area were vehemently opposed to the original mass transit bill.

“‘We will keep our eyes on it,’ she said.”
