Lake County Board Members Value Selves Highly

Last month, I brought you what McHenry County Board members get paid. It’s about $18,600, plus as much as a bit over $17,000 in health benefits, which can include their family members.

Now, the Daily Herald’s Russell Lissau reports,

“If approved at the board’s regular meeting May 13, the move would bring the typical board member’s salary to $44,074 by 2012, up from $37,856 now.”

They get paid extra for serving on the forest preserve board. No totals in the article about that.

And, no mention of any health benefits or pension benefits.

The board chairman has been getting twice what the other members receive, but he/she will get the same 4% raises for the first two years that the lesser members will receive under the proposal. The board chairman also get an additional $3,000 for being the liquor commissioner.

McHenry County Board Chairman Ken Koehler is getting $74,406.02 this year, plus $13,200 in health benefits and $6,300 in pension compensation.

Salaries for Lake County’s countywide elected officers of coroner, circuit clerk and recorder of deeds would go from $108,160 now to $125,924 by 2012.
