I’d never seen candles like these before the family celebration of Father’s Day and, oh yes, my birthday last weekend.

In his early 60’s my father used to delight in telling everyone he was “turning 26” or “turning 46” when asked how old he was.

Too late for me to follow his example.

I’m turning 99.

And my “C A L” candles are still burning brightly, although it does look as if someone is trying to blow them out.
