Two Weeks Late Huntely School Board Issues Terse Teacher Negiations Statement

In its last two-week late statement to the public, the Huntley School District 158 board chided the Huntley Education Association for not having backed down from hikes in salary and benefits that the school board said totaled 35%.

The message was so hot, I entitled the May 30th article,

Friday, this itty bitty message was released:

“The Board of Education awaits a reasonable proposal from the HEA (Huntley Education Association) from which negotiations can continue. The next meeting is scheduled for June 30.”

The board and union have federal mediators involved.

I assume the mid-June report will be issued about July 4th.

Oh, I forgot.

No one is working at the administrative building that day.

Again, I am reduced to having a two-year old photo of Superintendent John Burkey telling teacher union officials that the contract, whose contents had not been made public, would not be ratified that evening. It seems that some school board members wanted to know what it would cost. Pesky Larry Snow.
