Young Republican/Parade Organization Meeting

I was sent these photos of last Wednesday’s meeting to re-organize the Young Republicans and to organize GOP coverage of parades this year.

In the front of the room, from left to right, can be seen McHenry County Coroner Marlene Lantz, State Rep. and McHenry County Republican Central Committee Chairman Mike Tryon, a man I don’t recognize and former Central Committee Chairman Bill LeFew.

In this part of the audience I see Brent Smith, organizer of the meeting, sitting in the foreground. Mary Donner is sitting to his left. (Tell me who I am missing and I’ll add their names.)

  1. Yeah, so where are all the younger folks at?

That really is the problem with the Young Republicans in general – there’s really no mandate for activism that can’t be had in the party itself.

The College Republicans are pretty clear – you’re in college, then fantastic – get involved. And honestly, the passion for involvement there is actually pretty genuine for the most part.

By contrast, I haven’t met many Young Republicans that do it for much more than the social drinking and carousing that takes place, and the titles that it confers upon their resume.

I wish them the best, but there have been efforts that I’m aware of to start a Young Republicans group before in McHenry County – and they had the kabash pretty well put on them by some of the party elite…
