Finally, a Newspaper Writes an Obiturary on Francis S. Lorenz

It was the Chicago Tribune.

The obituary ran after his funeral.

It included new information that I did not put in my article.

For instance, before Lorenz was appointed state treasurer he was elected Cook County Treasurer.

Before that, Lorenz headed the Illinois Department of Public Works and Building, which turned into the Illinois Department of Transportation. He was there when the land was bought to build O’Hare International Airport, the Chicago Skyway and the Eisenhower Expressway, the obituary quoted his son.

And, Crystal Lake attorney Richard Flood clerked for Lorenz from 1976-78 when he was a Cook County Appellate Court Judge.

“Opinions written by Judge Lorenz were unique, said Richard Flood, the judge’s clerk from 1976 to 1978. He attributed facts in his opinions directly to testimony in the case, instead of offering summaries.’If you open a book of appellate opinions, you can quickly spot the ones he wrote,’ said Flood…,”

the Tribune wrote.

Lorenz was forced to retire at age 77 in 1992 and associated with Flood’s firm afterwards.

There is one mistake in the printed version of the obituary. Look right on top and you will see an “e” at the end of the judge’s name. Click to enlarge the image.
