Greenberg Wonders When Debate Will Occur

It won’t, of course.

8th congressional district Congresswoman Melissa Bean is certainly not going to hold a debate with challenger Steve Greenberg.

The Northwest Herald tried to set one up and Bean just couldn’t seem to work it into her schedule.

Nevertheless, that’s no reason that Greenberg shouldn’t call Bean on her “Barrington Bunker” strategy.

Greenberg’s press release follows:
One Month Out, Still No Debates
House to Recess Today—Bean Out of Excuses; 6 Forums Skipped So Far

LAKE ZURICH 10/3/08 – One month from Election Day, Melissa Bean still hasn’t accepted Steve Greenberg’s formal debate challenge. She continues to duck her constituents and avoid having to answer for her record in Washington. She has now skipped six forums and is expected to skip another on Saturday.1

According to Melissa Bean’s spokesman, “Bean is willing to debate and isn’t hiding from voters or the issues” and “looks forward to engaging in the political process, including debate.”2 Yet despite these remarks, they have refused to schedule debates or even begin planning.

“Melissa Bean’s staff can cover for her all they want, but the voters are demanding that she debate,” said Greenberg. “If Melissa Bean was serious about respecting the political process and standing up for her record, she would have accepted my challenge by now. Obviously she feels that with the support of the corporate CEOs and Washington special interests she doesn’t need to stand before her frustrated constituents.”

Forums/Debates Avoided by Bean to Date (Greenberg spoke alone unless noted):

  • September 14th – Lake County Right to Life Candidates Forum
  • September 17th – League of Women Voters of Barrington Candidate Forum – Congressional portion of forum canceled due to Bean’s lack of participation.
  • September 20th – Lake Barrington Shores Candidate Forum
  • September 25th – Schaumburg Business Association Candidate Forum – Congressional portion of forum cancelled due to Bean’s lack of participation.
  • September 29th – Lakes Community High School Candidate Forum
  • October 2nd – Illinois Retired Teachers Association Candidate Forum

Steve Greenberg is the Republican Nominee for Congress in the 8th Congressional District of Illinois. A successful businessman from Long Grove, IL, Steve will reform Washington by giving the power back to the people, allowing them to make decisions for their own family. He will cut taxes, eliminate government waste, fight for lower gas prices and work to ensure the safety of our families.
