Crystal Lake’s Village Road Speedway – Part 2

Yesterday, McHenry County Blog showed the results of reckless driving on Village Road.

Today Chris Gilbert, the neighbor on the Northeast corner of Village and Swanson Roads, filled me on reckless driving details from this past summer:

“We live right on the corner of Village and Swanson. We have a berm that runs parallel with Swanson. The one time we were hit in the summer, it looked like the car came up over the berm from Swanson and through our yard and then back onto Village.

“That was the best scenario. You could see the tire marks. Earlier, the car came around and hit the house straight across the street from us.

“It hit the curb and their hub cap came off. You could see that in the street.

“The car bounced across our yard and then she stopped. She knocked over a tree and the sod was pushed up. It was very early in the morning.

“My neighbor called the police and the police did come. They took a report. I don’t know what came of the report. The tree she took out was a city tree between the sidewalk and the street.

“It’s really bad the way people drive on our street. Every house along our street have about three kids, ranging from 4 to a freshman in high school, so in the summer they’re all out playing and the cars come speeding down the street.

“I’m afraid that something will happen. I guess I’m extra worried about it because my late husband was killed because of road rage when I lived in Colorado.

“I would hate for someone else to have to go through the pain I felt, especially for the loss of a child.

“I don’t think we should have to wait until something that bad happens to reduce the speed on Village Road. Glacier is two or three blocks up from us.”

The speed limit is now 30 miles per hours.
