MCC Proposes Tower Higher Than Sears Tower

Look at this image closely. (Click to enlarge.)

The TV-radio tower being proposed by the McHenry County College Board will be 1,500 feet–taller than the Sears Tower.

The Sears Tower is 1,450 feet tall, its web site says.

The Eiffel Tower is 1,063 feet tall.

When I saw MCC President Walt Packard today, I asked,

“1,500 feet?”

“Yeah. It’s tall,” was the reply as he left his office.

From the 103rd floor of the Sears Tower, people can see 50 miles.

That’s what the web site promotion says:

“While our 103rd floor is undergoing some exciting changes, our 99th floor Skydeck remains open and offers spectacular views spanning up to 50 miles and 4 states!“

The proposed TV-radio aerial, of course, is higher than the top of the Sears Tower, not the observation deck.

If you look to the left of the Eiffel Tower in the image above, you will see the height of the radio station aerials near MCC right now.

More details in this earlier story.

Sounds as if people would be able to see this tower from anywhere in McHenry County, if BMB Communications Management gets its way.
