McHenry County College Considers Selling 3.6 Acres for 1,500 Foot TV & Radio Tower; Price – $6 Million

So, how tall is a 1,500 foot tower?

The Eiffel Tower is 1,063 feet (324 meters)

1,500 feet is 41% higher than the Eiffel Tower, the tallest structure in the world when it was built in 1889.

The observation deck of the Empire State Building is 1050 feet.

Giant industrial-sized windmills are 300 to 400 feet tall.

The TV-radio tower that McHenry County College tried so, so hard to hide last February is now apparently ready for prime time.

That’s what the Northwest Herald, which has not previously covered the story, is reporting

The source of the NW Herald story is apparently a press release from a Mideastern-based company going by the initials of “BMB.”

The Herald story says BMB wants to buy 3.6 acres of MCC land for $6 million.

The college just paid $3.8 million for 57 acres north and east of the present campus.

Want to bet that T-Mobile and other cell phone companies won’t rent space?

The Herald also says that the firm’s representatives will meet with the McHenry County College Board on February 18th at 7 PM.

As you can see there was no such meeting listed on the MCC Board meeting schedule as of 1 PM today.

Dare one suggest that this is being voted upon before new trustees take office because there might not be majority support after the April 7th election.

I thought BMB, the company identified by McHenry County Blog March 1, 2008, was a Mideastern-North African-based company.

Turns out it is BMB Communications Management, LLC, of Okalahoma City.

On top, of course, is the Eiffel Tower, which is 70% as high as the proposed TV and radio tower.

Below is the photo I took of the BMB tower presentation just a bit over 11 months ago. As President Walt Packard saw me taking photos, he personally moved the American Flag to the right between my camera lens and the board room window. That’s his head in the background. On top, you can see an employee putting up opaque plastic over another window.

The picture you see with “BMB” on it is the last I was able to see before the windows were covered to keep information from leaking out of the room to people like you.

Below you can see that no MCC board meeting was scheduled at the time the NW Herald announced Feb. 18th was the date the BMB proposal would be presented to the board.

The current almost 500 foot radio aerials can be seen below. The proposed freestanding BMB aerial will contain tons of steel.

“I have never seen a tower that large,” Next Media Market Engineer for Chicago Paul Buck told me when I asked where another might be found.

Thanks for Allan Showalter of Heck of Guy blog for the placement of the Eiffel Tower and a radio tower from Crystal Lake in Downtown Chicago
