Beaubien Disturbed at Being Misunderstood after Talk with Chicago Crain’s Business Reporter

Friday, Greg Hinz, reporter for Crain’s Chicago Business wrote State Rep. Mark Beaubien

“is pushing a plan to begin taxing pension and other retirement benefits—and this idea is getting substantial early support from financial experts.”

In Hinz’ second paragraph, he again says,

“The proposal comes from North Shore Rep. Mark Beaubien, the point man and lead negotiator for Illinois House Republicans on the budget and other big-picture financial issues.”

Beaubien vehemently denies that is what he said.

McHenry County Blog posted a story late Friday, based on the Hinz article.

“I talked to Greg Hinz about a concept that I did not endorse or support. It’s an idea being talked about in Springfield,”

Beaubien told McHenry County Blog.

Beaubien called Monday morning to correct Hinz’ article.

“We had a conversation and I told him this is something that is being discussed.

“This is the second time in the last two months I have talked to a reporter and when you read the article you’d think I said something I didn’t,”

he continued.

The first was about newly-sworn in Governor Pat Quinn. It ended up sounding as if Beaubien had met the Quinn and he hasn’t.

“The press takes these things. You read that article and though it was my proposal.

“It isn’t.

“It’s being discussed in Springfield. Here’s something they’re talking about.

“But anyway you ran the article and I can understand why you would think I endorsed it. I didn’t. It’s just an idea.”
