Obama’s Budget Lie

At the Crystal Lake Kiwanis Club meeting two weeks ago a supporter of President Barack Obama touted the $2 trillion that he had promised to cut from the nation’s budget.

Having worked in the United States Bureau of the Budget (now the Office of Management and Budget), albeit when numbers had fewer zeros, I suggested that was impossible.

Yesterday I was reading Charles Krauthammer ‘s column in the Chicago Tribune. This jumped out at me:

“Forget the ‘$2 trillion dollars in savings’ that we have already identified.’

“$1.6 trillion of which Barack Obama’s budget director later admits is the ‘savings’ of not continuing the surge in Iraq until 2019—11 years after President George W. Bush ended it, and eight years after even Bush would have had us out of Iraq completely.”

Don’t like the word “lie?”

Would “deliberate deception” be better?

Maybe not by the President, but certainly the budget director knew he was providing blatantly false information.

I’ll be the civil service types, one of which I used to be in the Lyndon Johnson administration, are downright embarrassed.

Even the Democrats.
