Tryon and Althoff Put Reputations on the Line Supporting Mike Skala Against Larry Snow

Two Republicans are running against each other for the Huntley District 158 School Board.

Appointed incumbent Mike Skala (he lost his election two years ago) is running against elected incumbent Larry Snow for a two-year term.

It is undoubtedly the most hotly contested school board race in McHenry County.

Skala was one of the leaders, as a school board member, of the 55-cent tax rate hike in 2004.

So, it would be easy for Snow to frame this race as

“Tax Hiker”
vs.
“Tax Fighter”

But here comes a post card promoting Skala’s candidacy with the laying on of hands by Republican State Rep. Mike Tryon and State Senator Pam Althoff.

From reading it you would think Skala was a tax fighter.

Perhaps the two legislators were too busy in Springfield to read these articles found on the web site Vote for Larry Snow under newspaper articles:

D-158’s Money Mishandling Erodes Trust

District 158 Deception Harms Trust Everywhere

D-158 Deficit Inflated, Accountant Claims

District 158 Revelations Continue

District 158 Waited Until After Vote to Collect $5 Million Grant

D-158’s Snow: Officials Knew of Grant Money

Missteps in District 158 Mounting

Most of District Loan Still in Bank

Millions Left Off Budget Before Vote

And, if you want more evidence Skala is pro-tax hike, take a look at this:

Not under his own name, but under his business name, ICS Solutions, Skala gave a Feb. 11, 2004, $1,000 campaign contribution to Neighbors for Strong Schools, a tax hike group in Skokie.

Except for the teachers’ union, which gave just under $2,000, Skala’s firm gave more than any other contributor. His $1,000 was one-ninth of the campaign’s total.

What does that sound like to you?

More tomorrow.

  1. How ironic. As Chair of the MCGOP, Tyron gives specific orders to the rank and file not to get involved in non-partisian elections. Now, a mailer for Skala comes out with his endorsement on it! Hmmm?
Combine that with Tryon’s hiring of the notorious Cheryl Meyer of both Huntley and D300 referendum fame for his office staff. Hmmm?
    What’s cookin?
