More Evidence that Liberal News Sources Slacked Off in Math

Yesterday, I pointed to three liberal news sources in which Governor Pat Quinn’s proposed 33% income tax hike was described as a “one percent” increase.

My research was incomplete.

Since then, I have found that Chicago’s Public Broadcasting Station is similarly math impaired.

Take a look for yourself at the headline below:

I’ll pay a 1% increase; they can pay the 33%.
Call it a penalty for not learning junior high school math.

  1. Rusus, surely you have heard of the value of framing the issue.

    “One percent” sounds so small.

    “33%” doesn’t.

Was it deliberate falsification to fit the liberal bias of the writers?

    Could be.

When I called one of the writers on the very same mistake in the 67% income tax hike fight, he recanted and stopped saying it was a “two percent” increase.

When Thompson proposed raising the income tax 20%, his press guys were telling reporters that it was “a half percent” increase. (From 2 1/2% ro 3%.)

Fortunately, the largest paper in the state, the Chicago Tribune got it right, which will make it more difficult for others to misrepresent the size of the proposed increase in the future.
