March 19th, the Thursday Chicago Tribune insert TribLocal had an article by L S about Huntley village officials’ asking postal authorities for a new post office.
Yesterday, McHenry County Blog reported exclusively that the Post Office is planning to consolidate mail delivery for Cary out of the Crystal Lake Post Office and close the Cary Post Office.
There will still be a retail presence in Cary, but the backroom work will be moved up Route 14.
So, what about Huntley?
Carrier deliveries for Huntley already come out of Algonquin. Lake in the Hills’ mail comes out of Algonquin, as it always has. Sure, Lake in the Hills got its own zip code, but a zip code does not determine where mail trucks come from. (Crystal Lake has two zip codes, it should be noted.)
Anyone want to bet that they will not be moved into a new building in Huntley?
Now, the other question is whether a better location could be found for a retail center?
The answer is definitely in the affirmative.
Now, if the Huntley Village Board wants to make a recommendation as to which strip mall a new retail center should be located, that might carry some weight.
