McHenry County Officials Decline Meeting with Fleming Road Alliance, “Premature”

Bull Valley residents want to know if the McHenry County Board evisions Fleming Road as a Eastern Bypass around Woodstock.

What follows is a press release from the Fleming Road Alliance:

“Guest of Honor Declines Invitation of Fleming Road Alliance”

The Fleming Road Alliance (FRA) will hold a meeting on Monday but the guest of honor won’t be there!  FRA invited key staff members of the McHenry County Division of Transportation to come to their group meeting and give them some basic information.

Members of the group that organized the meeting feel that a basic “Transportation 101” course will put to rest much of the frustrated speculation that is running rampant in the neighborhood.

MCDOT declined, saying the meeting was premature.

MCDOT says they are still in the process of reviewing the numerous comments received after the Open House that was held March 23.

People writing comments at the Fleming Road hearing.

“That Open House gave us more questions than answers.”

Said FRA member Lisa Rhoades, “ The neighbors were not able to share information easily in that format, and answers given to one of us were not given to all of us. That limited our ability make informed comments. We would appreciate the opportunity to have our questions answered and make our wishes known.”

Several County Board Members and Bull Valley officials have accepted.

The meeting will go on as planned, with Rhoades and others attempting to answer questions they have researched, and listing the other questions to forward to MCDOT.  The meeting will be on Monday, May 3, at 7 pm in the McHenry County College auditorium. The FRA is a neighborhood group, organized this spring to protect Fleming Road from expansive changes.

“ We are very disappointed that MCDOT won’t come to the meeting,” said FRA member Mary Moltman, “ That doesn’t sound very transparent.”

  1. I don’t understand? These people want the road to deteriorate into dust and not be fixed? Or do they think County funds should be used to only do a half assed substandard job?

If the road is fixed it must be done to wider and heavier 80K standard. Haven’t they read the new truck laws published in the NorthWORST Herald? 80,000 pound trucks can go ANYWHERE. This road is an example of a road that was nothing more than a cow path later seal coated and then later blacktopped.

Just like a bridge, you can not rebuild to a substandard level.

  2. Here is my take on this. The road needs repair and KK wants a cut through for his new train station. Why else would the County board spend more money ($900,0000) than it takes to replace the road for a consulting firm to tell them what can be done. They will pretend to care about the residents and in the long run do what they want. And say we can’t do it that way. And how much would it cost before its done.
