8th District Watch – Walsh Releases Income Tax Returns, Waiting for Bean

April 30th, 8th District Republican Party candidate for Congress sent this press released.  Our family was in the Wisconsin Dells at the Kalahari Resort, so I’m just getting it posted.

Joe Walsh

Today, as he promised to do, 8th District Republican Congressional nominee Joe Walsh made public his 2009 income tax returns and challenged his opponent,  three-term incumbent Rep. Melissa Bean, to do the same.

“The residents of the 8th district have right to full transparency and complete disclosure from candidates who seek to represent them in Congress,” said Walsh.  “I said I would release my tax returns, I have done so, and Melissa Bean should do so as well.  Voters have a right to know, particularly given that we pay Rep. Bean’s $174,000 salary.”

Walsh’s 2009 returns show an adjusted gross income of $41,763 on which Walsh will pay $5,575 in federal income tax.

Over the last four years, Walsh’s average annual adjusted gross income is $53,981, just slightly above the median household income in the U.S.

  • 2009:     $41,763
  • 2008:     $25,524
  • 2007:     $60,553
  • 2006:     $88,084

“As I have said repeatedly during this campaign, I’m a ‘regular Joe’ who knows the difficulties middle class families face trying to make ends meet while facing more tax burdens and less economic opportunities,” Walsh said.

“I’ve lived the same struggles, it’s why I am so passionate about getting our country back on the right track.  I think the connection I share to the lives of working families will make me a better Congressman.”

Walsh proposed earlier this week to reduce Congressional salaries from their current level of $174,000 annually, nearly three times the median household income in the 8th District, to the median household income in the U.S. so that politicians are less insulated from the financial consequences of tax increases and runaway spending.
