Kane County Board Moves to Stop Payment for Indicted Coroner

Kane County Coroner Chuck West has been indicted for official misconduct. He was charged with taking a TV from the a dead Carpentersville man’s home, then giving it to two employees.

The Kane County Board voted to ask him to resign.

And, it plans to put a referendum on the ballot to allow voters to institute a Medical Examiner system to replace the coroner system.

And, the county board is trying to avoid paying for the Coroner’s legal defense.

explains the details, including the Coroner’s pitch for county taxpayers to pay for his legal defense.

The Daily Herald reports reports County Board Chairwoman Karen “McConnaughay said she doesn’t think the public can trust the coroner’s office as long as West is in charge and the criminal allegations are unresolved.”

She’s quoted as saying,

“I’ve not suggested that he resign, although that would be OK, too.”
