I received the following self-explanatory email from Mary Alger yesterday, but didn’t get a chance to process it:
I wanted to let your readers know that a clubhouse for McHenry County Iraq & Afghanistan War Veterans is opening this Saturday. We will be having the grand opening for the veterans at noon with American picnic fare.
AMVET’s post 269 has donated the building to be used as the “Down Range Club”
The clubhouse will be open to these veterans to meet up with other McHenry County Iraq & Afghanistan War veterans.
At the clubhouse veterans will be able to play chess, cards, horseshoes, and video games, watch TV/DVD’s & use the Wi-Fi internet. Veterans can check out books from the lending library and search job postings that I urge the Municipalities & community Fire, Police, Paramedic, and Sheriff’s Dept. to post at the clubhouse so veterans have first opportunity to apply for them.
I urge local businesses to post their job listings there as well! There will be information on veteran outreach support as well.
My prayer is for these veterans to be blessed by each other and by the outpouring of support via our local communities. I also pray that this be a model for all counties across this land to come together for our young men and women that sacrifice so much on our behalf.
The last component of the club is the “cookies 4 camo” project. We will be creating an on line sign up for volunteers to bring over to the club home made cookies or a baked good every day.
This project allows the every day person that has gratitude for our military to participate in giving thanks.
Information on the Down Range Club is as follows:
Down Range Club
12320 Davis Road
(frontage road just N. of Woodstock Harley Davidson off RTE 47)

This simply shows the continued support of Joe and Mary Alger for our Nation’s military heros.
Well done you two, and thank you, for my wife and I, and for our son.
