Saving Teachers’ Jobs and Providing Money for Democratic Party Candidates’ Campaigns

How many teacher jobs will Democrats subsidize in this week’s vote in Washington?

The Obama administration projects 5,000 in Illinois per the chart at the Obama administration’s web site.

Of the 138,800 jobs subsidized, how much will go to the teachers union in the form of union dues?

At least 83 million dollars.

Of the money about to flow from the printing presses in Washington, it is my understanding none can be used to subsidized the busing of students, the money for which has been drastically reduced by Governor Pat Quinn.

That’s a lot of money that can then be put into Democrat’s campaigns for the November election.

The federal dollars that will go to the teacher unions won’t make the mainstream media articles on the subject.

Note the average cost of a teacher in Illinois that will be hired is $83,080 according to the Obama administration.

This probably reflects having to hire back any tenured (and expensive) teachers first that may have been laid off.

It also reflects the high dollar value of benefits including pension costs that is part of every “average” teacher’s salary.

It will be interesting to see how local districts deal with getting the extra money that will be passing through the State.

Total dollars to Illinois looks like $415,397,841.

  1. Teachers aren’t the bad guys. Why don’t you pick on Wall Street bankers who took home $145 BILLLION in bonuses this year? Over 2200 bankers, that’s $65 million per banker.
