Marengo-Union Library District Trusts Public with Property Purchase Information

Given the lack of transparency shown by local governments like McHenry County College (think baseball stadium and the highest broadcast antenna in Illinois), it comes as a delightful surprise to read in the Northwest Herald that the Marengo-Union Library District actually is telling folks what it wants to buy to use as a new library.

I’m impressed the board is not keeping the location secret.

And, glory be, it is holding a public meeting to discuss in on Saturday morning when most taxpayers wanting to hear the discussion can easily attend.

Both actions are so unlike other local governmental bodies.

The recommendation to let the public in on the building purchase discussion was accepted by the Board President, who approves all agendas, I was told.

Details on where the meeting is being held can be found in the Northwest Herald article.
