Crystal Lake High Speed Motorcyclists Arrested

The following press release was received from the Crystal Lake Police Department:

On Tuesday, August 10th, 2010 at approximately 11:22 PM, Crystal Lake Police observed two motorcycles travelling west on Rakow Road at a high rate of speed.

As a patrol officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, in a fully marked police vehicle, the motorcyclists accelerated further, and attempted to elude the officer.

As the officer gave pursuit, the motorcyclists passed several vehicles unlawfully along Rakow Road to turn west on Ackman Road, and continued to accelerate away from the officer. One of the motorcyclists turned off Ackman Road to northbound Amberwood Drive, lost control, and crashed.

This subject; Mark A Schlarb (34) of 463 Brentwood Drive, Crystal Lake, suffered injuries requiring transport to Memorial Medical Center in Woodstock, where he was then flown by helicopter to Condell Hospital in Libertyville, where he remained until Thursday, August 26th.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Department investigated the crash at the request of the Police Department.

During the subsequent investigation the second subject was identified as Timothy J. Montgomery (33) of 533 Juanita Vista, Crystal Lake.

Warrants were obtained for both subjects who have since been arrested and charged with the following offenses;

  • Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding (4 Felony),
  • Speeding over 40 MPH over posted limit (A Misd), and
  • Reckless Driving (A Misd).

Additionally Schlarb was charged with;

  • Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs (A Misd), and
  • twelve additional traffic offenses (petty offenses).

Montgomery was also charged with:

  • Obstructing Justice (4 Felony), and
  • ten additional traffic offenses (petty offenses).

This case is pending a court appearance for both subjects, September 21st, 2010 at the McHenry County Courthouse.
