Dems Aren’t Celebrating Cash for Clunkers Because it Actually Cost $24,000 per Extra Vehicle Sold

M'Lady Nissan has an echo of the Cash for Clunkers promotion on Route 14. The sign now reads, "Cash 4 Junkers."

While everyone is remembering the anniversary of 9/11 one columnist, George Will, pointed out there wasn’t any high-fives in celebration of the cash for clunkers program.
His column can be found here.

Will reports it cost $24,000 per extra vehicle sold.

Such a program is indeed a clunker.

And the program also raised used car prices by 10 percent.

Traded in cars had to be destroyed whether or not they were polluters.

And, all along you thought those Chicago Democrats running the White House wanted to help people who can’t afford a brand new car.

Cash for Clunkers symbolizes Illinois Dems’ approach to running any state or federal economic plan.

A real clunker.

No concept of the effects of supply and demand. (Short course: fewer used cars means higher prices).

Too bad there are so many lawyers and so few who have any background in private enterprise.

I wonder how many courses in economics any of them took.

Now the ones left behind in Illinois want to raise taxes during a recession.

Where do they find such geniuses?

  1. Typical of goverment “make work, produce nothing” programs….cost is high while benefit is low.

What are all the produce-nothing “jobs” Obama says he’s creating costing taxpayers on an hourly basis?

Let’s simply cut government bureacuracy across the board by 85%.
