The Importance of Mark Kirk

McHenry County GOP Chairman Mike Tryon explaining to Republican Precinct Committeemen how the election of Mark Kirk can stop the Obama agenda dead in its tracks.

Have you wondered why national Republicans are spending money on Mark Kirk’s election as if there were no other election in the country?

I certainly have.

Last night at the McHenry County Republican Central Committee meeting, I discovered the answer.

It’s not the six-year term.

It’s getting rid of a Democratic Party vote between the election and swearing in time for the six-year term.

It’s about replacing Rolland Burris until the other newly-elected U.S. Senators and Representatives are sworn in.

As in the lame duck session when Republicans swept Democrats from the House and Senate like dust on a garage floor, Democrats this year have a sense of urgency that more of their radical agenda must be passed before they lose power in January…assuming the current lose of public support for Democrats continues.

The only way to stop Congress and whatever President Barack Obama really, really wants is to elect Mark Kirk for the short term in November.

That’s the pitch McHenry County Republican Party Chairman State Rep. Mike Tryon made Wednesday night.

It makes sense to me.

Kirk was scheduled to meet local folks at the Route 14 Crystal Lake Republican Campaign Headquarters from 7:30 to 8:45 Friday morning, but he did not get a Thursday night plane out of Washington, so will not be able to make the scheduled breakfast.

  1. The U.S. Senate election in Delaware is also a special election. Christine O’Donnell’s election there has the same consequences.

O’Donnell had hoped to raise $500,000 for the general election. Now that liberals in the media and stupidly Karl Rove attacked O’Donnell, people have reacted and contributed over $1,270,000 directly to her campaign.

When you consider the strict, federal campaign limits on contributions, this is a staggering sum in less than two days.
