Spring Grove Collecting Prescription Drugs, Too

It appears that pretty much every police department in McHenry County is participating in the prescription drug drop-off program initiated by the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Here is the Spring Grove Police Department’s press release:

Got Drugs!! Turn in your unused or expired drugs at Spring Grove Police Dept 7401 Meyer Rd on 09-25-10 10am to 2pm.

Got Drugs!! The Spring Grove Police Department is working with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) launching a campaign that will provide a safe way for Americans to dispose of their unwanted prescription drugs called “Take-Back”.

Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are increasing at alarming rates, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.

The DEA hopes to prevent increased pill abuse and theft among Americans. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. Approximately 6 out of 10 teens agree that prescription drugs are easy to obtain from parent’s medicine cabinet.

Spring Grove police officers will be present to assist residents at the police department on September 25, 2010 from 10am to 2pm.

Residents may drop off their expired, unwanted or unused solid prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, controlled and non-controlled substances for disposal. Liquid products, intravenous solutions, injectables and syringes will not be accepted.

The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
