In an attempt to bring in cash that Illinois Revenue Department agents have been unable to collect, the state is trying a different tact.

Today is the first day that Illinois taxpayers can take advantage of the Illinois Tax Amnesty Program.

Any taxpayer that is delinquent in the payment of personal or corporate income taxes, sales taxes, motor fuel or other taxes can make payment of the delinquent amount and all interest and penalties will be waived.

All appropriate tax returns must be filed or previously filed with payment.

The program will be in effect through November 8 after which the interest and penalties will double.
