McHenry Avenue Blocked by Droopy Wires

Here's the view heading south of Route 14 on McHenry Avenue.

It didn’t impede my trip from Route 14 to Lakewood, but low hanging power lines along McHenry Avenue south of Lake Avenue (oops, Lake Street, as a commenter points out) caused traffic to divert.

A closer view. Must not be too dangerous if a bicyclist is on the street.

No police directing traffic, but when you see a fire engine blocking the street, the message is pretty clear.

In both directions, the cars were lined up.

The street that goes from Lake Avenue to Lundahl Junior High had more traffic than I’ve ever seen on it.

It was like the 4th of July on Lake Avenue heading toward Crystal Lake's Main Beach.

There was even a back up at the Main Beach intersection.  You’d think the traffic jam would be people trying to get into Three Oaks Recreation Area (TORA) for its grand opening at 4 PM, rather than near the Main Beach.

  1. It was a John Deere Combine that hit the wires, and just kept on driving…that thing was 2 lanes wide and obviously just tall enough to catch the wires (40ft?).

It was kinda scary, we were about 4 cars behind.

He drive down RT14 (going NW) until the Park Police stopped him at almost RT176.

Why it was on McHenry Ave, and driving down RT14 I’ll never know.
