Tribune Finally Admits 8th District Race Close

Read the following paragraph and ask yourself why the Chicago Tribune didn’t pick up on the closeness of the race before.

“In the closer-than-expected contest, northwest suburban 8th Congressional District, Democratic U.S. Rep. Melissa Bean had 49 percent to 48 percent for Republican challenger Joe Walsh with 91 percent of precincts counted. It was about a 1,200-vote margin with Cook County votes primarily left out, where Bean leads. Walsh was underfunded and Bean aired TV attack ads on him near the end of the campaign.”

If they had, some of the national deep pockets might have kicked in some money.

  1. When the race had 91% of the precincts in, was there a picture taken of those returns?

    I know it doesn’t matter anymore nearly a decade later, but the only returns from the blog has Joe Walsh leading.
