Walsh Holds Post-Bean Concession Press Conference – Part 2

Relentless negative TV ads were not enough to return Melissa Bean to a fourth term in Washington.

Yesterday, Congressman Joe Walsh’s statement and questions about committee assignments and climate control were covered. Today the extent of Walsh’s mandate is discussed.

The U.S. Representative-elect was asked about his 290 out of 200,000 vote margin.

With the premise that Bean might try to reclaim her seat, Walsh was asked what he would do to “stave off potential challenge.”

“We probably had the largest grass roots organization in the state,” Walsh explained.

“I come to Washington resolute to do what I said I was going to do.

“Whether that helps (get me re-elected)… is irrelevant.

The mission to stop the spending path we are on,” he continued.

“People are obsessed with re-election

“To do what’s right, that’s our focus.”

A Chicago-area reporter who had been to Bean’s 9:30 press conference pointed out that she had questioned his having a mandate because of the narrowness of his victory margin.

“Irregardless of the margin,” Walsh replied, “any mandate I have…the vast majority in the 8th District have real fear about …borrowing (that our grandkids will have to pay off.

”(They have a strong concern about Obamacare. (We) need to be very firm in repealing Obamacare

“Our focus needs to be to lower taxes so small business can grow.

“Regardless of any election margin. That’s just not important.”

More tomorrow.

    In a word: YES!

I don’t know who said it, but they did a great job of encapsulating Obamacare: “If you think healthcare is expensive now, just wait till it’s “free”.”
