McHenry County Board Roll Calls for Leadership Positions

If you are interested in the inner workings of the McHenry County Board, peruse the four roll calls today for McHenry County Board Chairman and Vice Chairman.

Today, we’ll look at the votes for County Board Chairman for 2008 and 2010.

Ken Koehler beat Marc Munaretto 15-8 for County Board Chairman.

Newly elected McHenry County Board Chairman is sworn in.

Examining where Koehler’s votes came from shows that he has supporters in all county board districts.  He got at least two votes from every district and three from three districts.

He got one less vote than in 2008, when he won 16-6-2. The six went to Barb Wheeler; the two to Marc Munaretto.

The obvious conclusion is that he has maintained his power base.

Who was in Koehler’s coalition this year?  (All are Republicans, except Paula Yensen.)

From District 1:

Bob Bless and Anna Miller

From District 2:

Scott Breeden, John Heisler and Ken Koehler

From District 3:

Mary Donner and Nick Provenzano (newly re-elected to replace Ed Dvorak)

From District 4:

John Hammerand and Pete Merkel

From District 5:

Tina Hill, John Jung (newly re-elected replacing Jim Kennedy), Paula Yensen (D)

From District 6:

Diane Evertsen (newly elected replacing Dan Ryan), Mary McCann and Ersel Schuster.

Compare the votes above to Koehler’s 16-vote 2008 supporters (all are Republicans, except Jim Kennedy and Paula Yensen).

From District 1:

Yvonne Barnes (who lost the GOP primary election to Robert Novak), Bob Bless and Anna Miller

From District 2:

Scott Breeden, John Heisler, Ken Koehler and Lyn Orphal (who lost the primary election to Donna Kurtz)

From District 3:

Mary Donner and Ed Dvorak (who retired and was replaced by Nick Provenzano).

From District 4:

John Hammerand and Pete Merkel

From District 5:

Tina Hill, Jim Kennedy (D who lost the general election to John Jung) and Paula Yensen (D)

From District 6:

Mary McCann and Ersel Schuster

If one compares the two election tallies for County Board Chairman, one sees a loss of one vote in

  • District 1 with Novak and
  • District 2 with Kurtz

balanced off by a pick-up on one vote in District 6 with Evertsen.
