Thursday Lunch for McHenry County ECOmunity Network in Woodstock — 5 Comments

  1. Excuse me, but the words “fraud,” liars,” and “phonies” come to mind when reading about these folks.

Let’s call them what they are, “watermelons,” Green on the outside, red on the inside.

  2. 99% of what these people “know” about the environment (or science, for that matter) is nonsense and constitutes “Gaia Worship” – not science – designed to advance a societal agenda of people control.

Remember all the “catastrophes” these people promised?

In the early 70’s, a bunch of “illuminatees” meeting at the Italian estate of David Rockefeller called “The Club of Rome” said that the there were “limits to growth” and world-wide starvation was just around the corner. Never came about.

Then the “Gaia worshipers” were touting a new ice age 30 years ago, caused by pollution. Never happened.

Then they were touting “nuclear winter” unless all nuclear weapons were outlawed. The nuclear winter scenario was disproved by Saddam Hussein when he torched as many Kuwaiti oil wells as he could, and the micro-climate under the smoke clouded (which was visible from space) and extended a thousand miles should no change.

Then the Gaia lovers said that unless the old, inexpensive coolant, Freon, was immediately banned, the “ozone hole” would destroy all life on Earth. We did, substituting a much more expensive “eco-friendly” chemical. And the ozone hole is still there. One of the theorists behind the scare said recently that perhaps they didn’t know what caused the ozone hole after all. Oops! Billions of dollars were squandered in the change-over – making billions in profit for DuPont, despite what what any honors high school chemistry knows – chemicals like freon are heavier than air and sink, not rises – as any person with Halon fire suppression systems knows.

Remember DDT? Bedbugs were eliminated in the USA. So was Malaria – the mosquito carried killer of millions of children in Africa. And so was Dengue fever, a painful disease also carried by mosquitoes that was once eradicated in the USA. Now, every one is aming a major comeback, Malaria in Africa, Dengue in the Florida Keys. Bedbugs, everywhere in America. All this the result of that crank, Rachel Carson. The problem with DDT and bird eggshells was due to mega-doses, and properly applied does not cause eggshell thinning. Rachel lied, and millions of children died.

Now, the same clowns responsible for the old “Global Ice Age” manufactured or cherry-picked new data (the famous hockey-stick) and sing about “global warming” – until their behind the scenes emails were leaked to the public showing their duplicity and deliberate fraud, still being shilled by Al “my electricbill is $20K/month and I own a JP8-guzzling jet and a 300 foot yacht” Gore.

And these are the same clowns that are making you replace incandescent bulbs with CFL – “Compact Fluorescent Lighting” – bulbs that if they break, cfreate a “hazmat” situation due to the mercury that makes it glow.

No nukes. No coal. No drilling for either oil or natural gas. $4.00 gas going to $5 or higher. Boutique gasoline blends – ordered by an EPA that cheerfully admits that they have no interest in considering jobs or job losses. Economic dislocation and destruction bordering on economy wrecking. All the brain children of the Gaia-worshipers – the watermelons.

Now. If anyoine wants to plant a tree for earth day, knock your socks off (I’ve personally planted thousands). If you want to live in a solar house, do it – just remember it may take decades to pay off. Ditto for wind energy.

But don’t mouth self-ennobling noises about “saving the planet” if you do. You are not capable of saving the planet – because the planet doesn’t NEED saving. It was here billions of years before you started polluting the air by filling your diapers, and will be here for billions of years after you body disintegrates in to its components atoms.

    God save America from “environmentalists!”

  3. You seem a little paranoid to me. Who exactly are “these people”?

And, are you actually arguing against reuse, sustanibility, and conservation? There is plenty of “social science” if not traditional scientific thinking documenting the peril of over consumption.

It might just be me, but it seems somehow wrong that people kill each other over fresh water.

At any rate, a LOCAL agency that forwards the concept of attaniable housing in THIS county is a good thing to me, and should be supported whether they choose to tack on a “green” initiative or not.

  4. Oh and also, Freon has nothing to do with Ozone depletion. It is the free radical chain reactions created by the Flourine (Freon is actually a trade name, not a chemical compound) and other halogens that cause problems.

If you’re interested, here’s the science.

Freon R-12 is chemically CCl2F2. When exposed to UV light (on this planet, plenty of UV light is provided by the Sun, and it doesn’t matter if the gas is heavy and sinks, or if it floats up to the Troposphere), the C-Cl bond is broken and free radical Cl is formed.

The Cl ion rises reacts with ozone (O3) to form O2 and ClO, another radical. The ClO reacts with O to form O2 and Cl…Which takes us right back to the beginning…more free radical Cl floating around. The Cl “eats up” more ozone, forms more CLO, which reacts with O and makes more Cl… You see?

This reaction is self sustaining, and can go on for YEARS before the CCl2F2 finally degrades. That is why the “hole is still there” as you pointed out above. The newer halogens being used are less stable, and degrade much faster so that not as much ozone is destroyed, but it is a step in the right direction, not a solution.

  5. JM “are you actually arguing against reuse, sustanibility, and conservation?” Oh, don’t put words in my mouth. I’m against the hoaxes driving the movement. I’m against the fraud that justifies the entire “environmentalist” movement. Having read Lomberg’s “The Skeptical Environmentalist,” having read the “climate-gate” emails, having read Robert Lundgren’s essays for years, and having a background in physics and math, I’m not fooled by the watermelons.

“Environmentalism” is about power and people control. There are the useful idiots and those pulling their strings.

“Sustainability” is a myth, propaganda to fool the stupid. It’s a LIE.

You want clean air and water? good on you. So do I. But that’s got NOTHING to do with the “Holy Mantras” and liturgies of the eco-fraud movement. The planet has multi-millennium worth of raw materials. The solar system even more. And the universe even more. All the sturm and doom is is designed to panic people into surrendering their personal liberty and freedom to a power seeking elite.

As for the ozone hole, your knowledge is, perhaps, less than perfect.

“Markus Rex, an atmosphere scientist at the Alfred Wegener Institute of Polar and Marine Research in Potsdam, Germany, did a double-take when he saw new data for the break-down rate of a crucial molecule, dichlorine peroxide (Cl2O2). The rate of photolysis (light-activated splitting) of this molecule reported by chemists at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California1, was extremely low in the wavelengths available in the stratosphere — almost an order of magnitude lower than the currently accepted rate. “This must have far-reaching consequences,” Rex says. “If the measurements are correct we can basically no longer say we understand how ozone holes come into being.”…

…The rapid photolysis of Cl2O2 is a key reaction in the chemical model of ozone destruction developed 20 years ago2 (see graphic). If the rate is substantially lower than previously thought, then it would not be possible to create enough aggressive chlorine radicals to explain the observed ozone losses at high latitudes, says Rex. The extent of the discrepancy became apparent only when he incorporated the new photolysis rate into a chemical model of ozone depletion. The result was a shock: at least 60% of ozone destruction at the poles seems to be due to an unknown mechanism, Rex told a meeting of stratosphere researchers in Bremen, Germany, last week.” http://www.nature.com/news/2007/070924/full/449382a.html

Banning freon was an economic blunder based on politics serving corrupted science.

“The Montreal Protocol to ban freons was the warm-up exercise for the IPCC. Many current IPCC players gained fame then by stampeding the US Congress into supporting the Montreal Protocol. They learned to use dramatized, phony scientific claims like “ozone holes over Kennebunkport” (President Bush Sr’s seaside residence in New England). The ozone crusade also had business opportunities for firms like Dupont to market proprietary “ozone-friendly” refrigerants at much better prices than the conventional (and more easily used) freons that had long-since lost patent protection and were not a cheap commodity with little profit potential” Will Happer, former Director of Energy Research at the US Department of Energy http://icecap.us/index.php/go/new-and-cool/the_ozone_hole_debacle_from_an_insider/

Fraud is fraud. Making societal changes based upon politicized science is criminal because of the economic damage it brings to human lives. And it debases science, bringing it down to the level of political hackery.
