Illinois – Flyover Land for the Challenger

This ia about as close as the real Challenger will get to the Adler Planetarium--our Lakewood driveway.

You may remember that the Adler Planetarium had a splendid drawing of how it would display the Challenger on its grounds.

It reminded me of the Shedd Aquarium’s dolphin pool’s virtually seamless connection of the pool with Lake Michigan.

Adler planned to encase the Challenger in glass to be seen against the sky. I believe people would be able to see it from outside.

As the disappointing news was breaking that three sites on the East Coast and one on the West Coast, with Houston and Chicago being passed over, I thought of how the elites of both coasts refer to the Midwest.

We’re the “flyover” part of the country.

Just a nuisance time waster keeping them from getting one one coast to the other.

So, now wonder Chicago and Houston lost out.

We don’t count.

Having the President from Chicago makes no difference.

The Challenger Learning Center is in Downtown Woodstock.

Oh, we can have a Challenger Learning Center like the one in Woodstock.

But not the real thing.

So, if your child is interested in space, sign up for some time in Woodstock or buy a Lego kit.

We could have saved the box, but I decided to take pictures of it instead.

Plan to go to Los Angeles, New York City, Washington, D.C., or Cape Canaveral, Florida.

Nothing for the flyover zone.
