Jack Franks and Joe Walsh on Israel

Columnist Chris Pummer gives Joe Walsh slim odds at winning a second term.

A columnist named Chris Pummer, writing for The Perpetual Post, doesn’t think freshman Congressman Joe Walsh has much chance of getting re-elected.

He thinks in a match-up with fellow freshman Randy Hultgren, Hultgren wins.  Pummer notes that Walsh only won 30% of the multi-candidate GOP primary in 2010, while Hultgren bested former U.S. House Speaker Denny Hastert’s son.

Strangely, the column is entitled “Joe Walsh on Israel.”  I don’t see anything about Israel in it, but it got me thinking.

I recently shared some thoughts about a match-up between State Rep. Jack Franks and Walsh, but I didn’t mention anything about Jewish constituents.

It’s no big secret that Franks is Jewish, so one might think he would corner the Jewish vote and money.

He might get the votes, although I doubt that is a large constituency in the 14th District where Franks and Walsh now live.

And Franks and his extended family will be able to raise Jewish money.  They have for his state rep. campaigns.

But, if you were a part of the national Jewish lobby for Israel, I have a question:

Would you rather have a fervent and articulate defender of Israel in the ruling party in the United States House of Representatives, that is, the Republican Party, or a freshman Democrat?

Just wondering and thinking the answer does not necessarily lead to strong support of a Franks’ candidacy.
