Walsh Calls for End to Unconstitutional Libyan War

A press release from Congressman Joe Walsh:

Congressman Walsh statement on his opposition

to continued operations in Libya

For too long, we have let the President circumvent his authority and carry out a mission that is still very unclear.”

WASHINGTON –
Congressman Joe Walsh (R-IL) today made the following statement regarding his opposition to recent legislation limiting U.S. Armed Forces presence in Libya.

Joe Walsh at Crystal Lake's Country Donuts answering as question Sunday.

“For the last 103 days, our Armed Forces have been asked to carry out operations in Libya without Congressional authority and without a defined mission,” said Congressman Walsh.

“I have made it clear that these operations are unconstitutional and in clear violation of the War Powers Resolution of 1973, which forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days without authorization from Congress or a declaration of war.”

Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on two measures to limit – but not fully withdraw from – these operations in Libya. Congressman Walsh opposed both measures because they continued to authorize the use of American forces in Libya.

In early June, Congressman Walsh supported legislation that fully ended American involvement in Libya.

“It is my job as a Member of Congress to uphold the authorities granted to the President and Congress under the Constitution. For too long, we have let the President circumvent his authority and carry out a mission that is still very unclear. I will oppose any legislation that does not completely end operations in Libya – and does not do it right now.”

“The President in his remarks regarding Libya in late March talked more about the authority granted to him by United Nations than he did about Congress. It’s time he listened to the American people, followed the authority of the Constitution, and end operations in Libya.”

  1. And Obama looked at his cronies and said “The Constitution, what’s that? And then he followed that up with “The American people. Who are they”?

  2. and Walsh doesn’t understand the “War Powers” Act. Grandstanding that all he is good for. M Guy you have no idea what the Constitution is about.

  3. LC apparently has no clue what the War Powers Act is about. This is exactly the reason this war is unconstitutional. But that has never bothered this usurper in chief before. Why should it now? I would say impeach him, but how can you impeach someone who never had any right to be in that office in the first place. Drag him away in chains.
