Methodist ministers get transferred as of July 1st when they are moved.
As I wrote previously, Associate Pastor Darneather Murph-Heath was shifted to Our Saviors Methodist Church in Schaumburg.
Our replacement has come from Prophetstown, Illinois.
He is Pastor Charles Yoon.
He has served churches in Korea, where his father shepherded a church of 3,000.
He also did a stint in New Jersey before coming to the Northern Illinois Conference for 22 years.
He grew up in the Korean Methodist Church in Seoul, Korea, attended Methodist Theological Seminary, where he earned a Bachelor of Theology and Master of Theology in Church History, and went to Drew University Theological School in Madison, NJ. There he earned a Master of Divinity, a Master of Philosophy, and a Doctor of Philosophy in church history.
In 1989 he began his pastoral ministry by serving a small rural church.
After he ordained in the Korean Methodist Church in 1992, he continued to serve churches in Seoul and New Jersey. In 2005 he was appointed to Prophetstown UMC and transferred to the Northern Illinois Conference in full connection in 2008.
Charles says he loves to meet people in and beyond church and work with them for God’s kingdom.
As a pastor he wants to be a care giver, a teacher, an administrator, and a friend, sharing the gospel with people and making them disciples for transforming the world. He loves singing, reading books, and traveling.
Charles married Esther Jeeyeon Cheong in 1994 and they have three daughters – Kristine, Sarah, and Eunice.
The eldest will be a junior at the Illinois Math and Science Academy. Number two will be in eight grade at Bernotos Middle School. The youngest will be attending Husmann Grade School.
Services at the church, which is located at the intersection of Dole and West Crystal Lake Avenues, are at
- 5 PM Saturday evening
- 8 AM Sunday morning (outside)
- 9:30 Sunday morning
- 11 AM Sunday morning
Hello Pastor Yoon,
I am a local coordinator for CIEE and place high school exchange students in host families homes. I am reaching out to churches in my area in hopes that you would put something in your bulletin or display board that I am looking for a host family for a delightful South Korean girl who will be attending Faith Lutheran High School next week. She will be arriving on Jan 5th and she needs a host family.
Below is a small blurb about her. Can you help me? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Minah is a 16 year old girl from South Korea. She is active and full of positive energy that people around her usually say that they get a positive and energetic influence from her. She enjoys running, watching movies, singing, and listening to music. She would like to join the track team, cross country team, or a choir at her US high school. She wants to be a nurse when she grows up. She is excited to experience the American school system and make new friends! She has 2 older brothers. GPA: 3.5 SLEP: 53 Allergies: none Program Length: 12 months Arrival Date: Jan 2012
