Comparing Joe Walsh and Randy Hultgren on Campaign Finances

The second quarter of 2011 campaign receipts and expenses have been reported by the congressional folks.

Below you can see summaries from the two congressmen who live in the district that comprises most of McHenry County.

First you see 8th Congressional District U.S. Representative Joe Walsh.

14th Congressional District Representative Randy Hultgren comes second.

Walsh raised more money than Hultgren, $602,649 versus $457,942.

Walsh also spent less than Hutlgren, $151,646 versus $235,568.

Most of the difference is attributable to Walsh having raised almost twice as much money from Political Action Committees as has Hultgren.

Both have high percentages coming from individuals.  Hultgren got 71% of his money from such sources, while Walsh was at 65%.

$472,895 is what Walsh has in cash, while Hultgren has $242,780.

Walsh owes more money than Hultgren, however, by something less than $50,000.  Walsh is in debt $102,835, while Hultgren owes $55,250.

Net it out, though and Walsh has $162,540 more in available resources than Hultgren.

Deputy Republican Party Whip Peter Roskam, who will represent Algonquin Township under the Democrats’ map, raised pover 50% of his funds from PAC’s and 48% from individuals.

The longer politicians stay in a legislative bod, the lower the percentage contributed by individuals tends to be.
