“Tip of Spear” Joe Walsh Replies to Chicago Sun-Times “Hit Piece” Questioning Article’s Timing

A press release from Congressman Joe Walsh on Sun-Times story:

Congressman Walsh Statement on Chicago Sun-Times Hit Piece

WASHINGTON –It is not lost on me that a court case filed almost 8 months ago regarding a marriage that ended more than 8 years ago would be brought up today.

Joe Walsh discusses issues with man at Crystal Lake's Country Donuts in a June "Joe with Joe."

We are 72 hours away from one of the biggest decisions our country has to make about its financial future.

I understand why this is a story and why the media has to ask me about it.

I understood as a candidate, and I understand as a sitting member of Congress that the scrutiny of my personal life will be intense.

This is a tough business.

It’s also not lost on me that not everyone agrees with me politically, I am the tip of the spear in this current debate, and I will be attacked.

Let me say this.

I love all the members of my family past and present.

I’ve always given everything I have to meet my financial obligations to my children and I will fight until my last breath against anyone who says otherwise.

My children are truly the treasure of my life, which is why I’ve been trying to resolve this issue since January in a court of law, rather than drag my children into it.

That is the appropriate venue and I will not discuss this private family issue in public.

The people of Illinois’ eighth congressional district voted for me not because I’m wealthy but because they wanted a fighter in Washington.

They did not vote for me because I was a career politician, but because they wanted one of them as their Representative in DC.

They wanted someone to stand up to Washington and tell them the spending has to stop.

This morning that is exactly what I am going to continue to do.

I have tried to be the most accessible Congressman on the planet and I will continue to do so moving forward.

These latest attacks against me are false and I will fight them in the appropriate venue.

And as your Congressman I promise you that I am going to put my head down, get back to work and continue to fight for our freedoms and our children’s future.

I’m not going to let some hit piece in the media deter me from that.

“Tip of Spear” Joe Walsh Replies to Chicago Sun-Times “Hit Piece” Questioning Article’s Timing — 14 Comments

  1. Pay what you are supposed to and you do not have these problems. Great congressmen. This one doesn’t pay support, Geitner skips out on income taxes until he is caught. These are the type of people shaping our countries future, how sad !

  2. Joe Walsh, just a typical “do as I say not as I do” “fiscally responsible” Right wing deadbeat dad. Amazing how many Republicans do this.

  3. Not paying child support is a serious thing…

That being said we don’t actually know yet that is what happened here.

Ex-spouses can make all the accusations in the world against one another. Those accusations in and of themselves do not always end up being true.

I suspect most commenters will be making deciding on if this accusation is true based on their political persuasion and not any actual facts.

  4. Very well said. However, Rep. Walsh calling the Sun-Times story a “hit piece” is also out of line because a congressman of any political persuasion accused of not paying 100K in child support is news, whether he likes it or not.

  5. Several years ago my husband was accused by his ex of being deliquent in child support simply because “she was mad at him”.

Child Services immediately notified the credit bureaus, in fact, prior to sending a certified letter to my husband notifiying him of the accusation.

The system is such that you are presumed guilty until proven innocent.

Fortunately we had saved all cashed checks and check copies dating as far back as 1991.

Not one payment did he miss, or due date.

Child Services had to retract and unfortunately there were no repercussions to the ex for submitting a false report.

    It does happen folks.

  6. I have met Congressman Walsh and his family.

I have witnessed on many occasions that he is a dedicated father. He made no secret in his campaign that he had financial difficulties in his past.

If there are disagreements with his wife from a previous marriage, all I ask is that America let the courts decide what is fair and accurate before throwing this dedicated man to the wolves.

Shame on the Sun-Times for presenting this accusation as news without due diligence, and disclosure.

My former wife sometimes says rotten things about me, and later admits that she was just feeling mad or frustrated about her own situation.

Like Congressman Walsh, I still wish her well, and forgive her, although it still hurts.

I cannot even imagine what it is like to have this kind of public attack while you are trying to prevent the country from going donw the drain.

Like or dislike his political views, please don’t judge people based on reletave “gossip.”

If he owes back support, he will have to pay it. If not, what retribution does he have after this “newspaper” attack.

  7. Walsh’s district is now a safe one. For Democrats. Phoney. Let’s see you appear on “Hardball” now. Hate to say it, Dumbocrat wave building for 2012.

  8. Whoops, ol’ “Tip o’ the Spear” didn’t pay his child support. Boo.

  9. Annonymous says this is a “hit piece” Collecting myself, big breath, and … ahhahahhhahhhhahhhahhhhahhhah. ah… that felt good, a good belly laugh does the heart well.

  10. Teabaglicans are always whining that reality has an unfair liberal bias.

  11. Deadbeat Joe is part of the pro-bankrupt Republican caucus that turned surpluses to deficits and embarasses us on national tv. This personal story is consistency, not a surprise.
